This is a pain syndrome affecting the neck, shoulder girdle, and upper back. The causes are usually complex—degenerative changes in the cervical spine, muscle tension and imbalance, and poor posture, especially when performing sedentary work. The pain may radiate to the head, arms, or between the shoulder blades, and may be accompanied by numbness or a sensation of heaviness in the arms.
