This is pain that persists for more than 3 months after surgery or an interventional procedure and cannot be explained solely by a normal but prolonged healing process or any other clear cause. It may be aching, burning, or stabbing, and is sometimes accompanied by numbness, increased sensitivity, or functional impairment in the operated area. It occurs more frequently after major surgeries or those carrying a risk of nerve damage, but it can also occur after minimally invasive procedures.
