Trochanteritis (trochanteric bursitis)

This is pain in the lateral hip region caused by inflammation and irritation of the structures surrounding the greater trochanter—the bursa, tendons, or fascia. The pain worsens when lying on the affected side, climbing stairs, walking for long periods, or sitting with crossed legs. Risk factors include being female, older age, being overweight, weak thigh muscles, or an altered gait due to other medical conditions.
