Compression of the nerves in the abdominal wall

This is a pain syndrome caused by compression or irritation of the nerves running through the abdominal wall. The pain is usually well-localized, burning or stabbing, and worsens with movement, coughing, or twisting of the torso. Causes may include surgical scars, hernia repair, or trauma, althoughspontaneous cases do occur. This condition is often unrecognized and mistakenly attributed to a pathology of the internal organs.
