Pears-shaped muscle syndrome

This is a condition in which a small pear-shaped muscle goes into spasm and irritates or compresses the sciatic nerve. It most often manifests as pain in the buttock area, which may radiate to the back of the thigh and be accompanied by numbness or tingling. The pain often worsens with prolonged sitting, climbing stairs, running, or performing certain hip movements.
