Complex visual pain syndrome (CRPS)

Chronic pain syndrome, usually affecting one limb, usually following trauma or surgery. It is characterised by intense pain, swelling of the limb, changes in skin colour and temperature, sweating and impaired strength of the affected limb. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial – earlier treatment is associated with a better prognosis. Treatment may include specific medications, physiotherapy, sympathetic nerve blocks or neurolysis, and ketamine infusions.
