Myofascial pain syndrome

This is chronic pain in the muscles and fascia (the tissue covering the muscle), characterised by painful points – triggers. They can cause local pain or pain that spreads to other parts of the body. The most common causes are muscle overload, stress, non-ergonomic posture or trauma. The syndrome is often underdiagnosed. Treatment includes trigger point injections, ‘dry needling’, medication and physiotherapy.
