Back pain with radiculopathy

This is pain caused by irritation or compression of the nerve roots in the spine, usually due to a disc herniation, narrowing of the spinal canal or osteophytes. The pain spreads from the neck to the arm or from the waist to the leg and may be accompanied by numbness, tingling or muscle weakness. Treatment depends on the cause and the severity of the symptoms, ranging from medication and specialised physiotherapy to interventional procedures such as epidural injections, nerve root blocks and, if indicated, surgery.
